Monthly Hikes Around Town

2011-12 Sunday Walk Schedule

Stone bridge, Hale/Corzine property
Sunday, November 6, 2011 – 2:00 pm Hale/Corzine
Come explore Stow's newest hiking trail! On Sunday, November 6 at 2PM, George Cogswell will lead a two-hour, two-mile walk, starting from the trailhead between 33 and 39 Edgehill Road, off Walcott Street. Rain date 11/13. To pre-register or ask questions about Stow Conservation Trust's monthly hikes, email Dan Foster at svt@easygps.com.

Sunday, December 4, 2011 – 4:00 pm Fieldstone
The rut is on, and Stow's Fieldstone property is a great place to look for deer. Hiking at dusk, we'll maximize our chances of encountering wildlife as we walk the one mile loop trail. Families welcome, but no dogs this time. To pre-register or ask questions about Stow Conservation Trust's monthly hikes, email Dan Foster at svt@easygps.com.

Sunday, January 1, 2012 – 1-5 pm Delaney
Work off those holiday calories with a fast-paced, long-distance hike at the Delaney Project. Starting at the boat ramp parking area off Harvard Road, we'll hike the entire trail network, seeing how many miles we can cover in an afternoon. Come prepared with a daypack, snack and water, and bring a warm layer for when we pause. You should be comfortable hiking 8 miles at a moderate pace. Leashed dogs and energetic kids welcome. RSVP to Dan Foster at svt@easygps.com for full details and weather updates.

Charcoal rock, Sureau property
Sunday, February 5, 2012 – 2:00 pm Heath Hen
Heath Hen is one of the best places in Stow to go winter tracking. Discover tracks along the stream, near the apple orchard, and around the beaver pond. Dress in layers and bring a warm sweater, since we'll be moving slowly while looking for tracks. Meet at the trailhead on the east side Boxborough Road in Stow, just north of Packard Rd. The hike will be postponed for poor weather or snow conditions. RSVP to Dan Foster at svt@easygps.com for full details and weather updates.

New Year's Day 2008
Our start-the-year-right hike attracted a baker's dozen of walkers and snowshoers. Dan Foster provided insightful commentary on wildlife and tracking, while his father, John Foster, provided the photos below.
